The Auburn University Concert Band presented its fall concert Wednesday, Dec. 3 at Telfair Peet Theatre.
Christy Pickering, senior in Chemical Engineering and clarinet soloist, said the concert band performs one concert in the fall and one concert in the spring. Pickering said she is in marching band, but made time in her schedule for concert band as well.
According to Pickering, the concert band practices once a week for an hour and a half.
"It's neat to get to play pretty music on my clarinet instead of the loud music that we play in the stands," Pickering said. "This is a great opportunity to play classical music."
Margaret Word, freshman in music education, said playing percussion in her first concert at Auburn was a great experience.
"I really love concert band," Word said. "It gives us a nice contrast to marching band."
The concert band is directed and was conducted Wednesday night by Corey Spurlin.
Spurlin said that it was hard to put together a performance with a group that only meets one day a week.
He also said about 90 percent of the members of concert band have other obligations because they are also in marching band.
"It's pretty impressive what they do when you think about that," Spurlin said. "I'm very proud of them."
