Auburn Fire Chief Lee Lamar passed away after 33 years of city service

After 33 years of service, Auburn Fire Chief Lee Lamar died Feb. 18.

A press release from the City of Auburn confirmed Lamar died after suffering from an extended illness.
Lamar passed away peacefully in the morning surrounded by his family and friends.

“Lee was a great friend and coworker that cared about everyone he came into contact with,” said Bill James, public safety director. “Lee will be greatly missed. Thanks to his leadership, the Fire Division is well equipped to continue to pursue excellence.”

Lamar led the Fire Division since July 2008.

“Lee was a dedicated professional who cared deeply about this community and the men and women with whom he served,” said City Manager Charles Duggan. “To the end, he maintained a positive outlook, his sense of humor and his commitment to public service. Please be in prayer for his family and friends.”

Mayor Bill Ham Jr. communicated his sadness for Lamar’s death, and said Lamar was completely dedicated to the fire safety of the Auburn community.
Ham said Lamar spent his career building one of the finest fire divisions in Alabama.

“Not only will we miss his expertise and leadership as chief of the Fire Division, but we will miss his friendship, his deep concern for others and his generous spirit,” Ham said. “We express our deepest condolences to his family, his friends, and all the members of the Fire Division. Lee meant a lot to many people and will be sorely missed.”
