Auburn University has named Gretchen R. VanValkenburg as vice president for alumni affairs and executive director of the Auburn Alumni Association.
According to a press release from Auburn, VanValkenburg will begin her new position March 1.
VanValkenburg is leaving her position as executive director of development and alumni engagement at the University of West Florida to come to Auburn.
"It's a pleasure to welcome Gretchen back to Auburn as our executive director," said Auburn Alumni Association President Jack Fite. "She brings a distinguished career in alumni affairs and development, and we're excited to work with her to move our association forward and to new levels of alumni engagement."
VanValkenburg, originally from Montevallo, graduated from the Harbert College of Business at Auburn in 1986.
"I look forward to the opportunity to further strengthen the bond between Auburn University and its many alumni and friends," VanValkenburg said. "Coming back to Auburn feels like coming home."
