It could not have been a more memorable senior day for the Auburn women's soccer team as senior Chelsea Gandy-Cromer scored the game-winning goal in overtime to keep their postseason hopes alive and also keep the Iron Bowl trophy on the Plains for another year.
Gandy-Cromer also scored the only goal in last year's victory over Alabama to earn a spot in their 13th consecutive SEC Tournament.
With this victory over Alabama, it not only puts their conference-winning streak to three in a row but also adds onto Auburn's lead over the Crimson Tide in the Iron Bowl of Soccer with a series record of 14-7-2.
The first half of the game for the most part was even for the in-state rivals as it remained scoreless with Alabama leading 6-5 in the shots on goal category.
Auburn showed more sparks of offense in the second half as they had more shots but at the end of regulation it remained scoreless.
With this win Auburn's overtime record this season goes to 2-1-3. Auburn also improves to 10-5-3 overall and 4-3-3 in the SEC with only one regular season game left, Thursday, Oct. 30 at LSU.
