UPDATE: Man arrested for the murder of man on Spencer Avenue

UPDATE:

Auburn Police Division arrested a man for the murder that occurred Saturday, Feb. 14 on Spencer Avenue.
APD arrested Cornelius C. Reese, 26, from Auburn on a felony warrant charging him with murder.

According to a APD press release, the victim, Deon T. Nelms, was shot multiple times in the chest and torso and later died from his injuries. Nelms was pronounced dead at the scene by Lee County Coroner Bill Harris at 9:57 p.m.

As a result of the shooting investigation by the police, Reese was discovered as a suspect. The police also found out Nelms and Reese knew each other through the investigation.

"It appears there was an issue between the two of them; the suspect sought out the victim, confronted him and shot him," said the press release from APD. "Reese turned himself in to detectives and was taken into custody."

The case remains under investigation by APD and the State Medical Examiner's Office. No additional arrests are anticipated.

According to the press release, Reese was transported to the Lee County jail and will be eligible for a $150,000 bond.

A 39-year-old Auburn man was killed Saturday night, Feb. 14.
Police discovered the man lying in the road near the 600 block of Spencer Avenue suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to a news release issued by the Auburn Police Division.
An officer was patrolling the area when he heard gunshots near Spencer Avenue at approximately 9:40 p.m.
The man's name has not been released.
