Men’s and women’s golfers named to SEC Community Service Teams

Sophomore Matt Gilchrest was named to the SEC Men’s Golf Community Service Team for his first-team All-SEC standing and his participation in giving back to the Dufner Foundation this season, according to a press release issued by the Auburn athletics department.

Women’s senior Lakin Eddy also received the award for her continuous reappearance on the SEC Academic Honor Roll, her involvement with Auburn’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as president and her participation in countless charities around the community.

Eddy has worked with the SEC Canned Food Drive and the Beat Bama Food Drive, as well as Toys for Tots. She has also given back by offering her services frequently at East Alabama Medical Center and Storybook Farms, on top of helping with Blessings in a Backpack.

She also participated as a volunteer for the Jason Dufner Charity Golf Tournament this year.

This season, Gilchrest finished with a 70.41 stroke average in 32 rounds and claimed the eighth ranking in the SEC. He was also recognized as SEC Golfer of the Week with his 12-under 204 finish, taking fifth place in the Amer Ari Invitational, including a second round 64, the second-lowest round in Auburn history.

Gilchrest currently defends the 18th spot in the Golfstat rankings and is one of 24 golfers on the Ben Hogan Award Watch List.

Gilchrest will face Texas and Texas Tech alongside the Tigers in the Lubbock, Texas, NCAA Regional starting at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 14. If the Tigers make the top five, they will advance to the NCAA Championship May 29-June 3 in Bradenton, Florida.
