Duke Williams misses first fall scrimmage, dealing with "discipline issue"

Auburn was without a key member of its offense at practice for the second day in a row on Saturday, Aug. 8.

Offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee said on Friday that Dhaquille "Duke" Williams missed practice because of "personal business."

After Williams also missed practice on Saturday, coach Gus Malzahn said the senior was missing because of a "discipline issue that we're taking care of."

Malzahn would not elaborate on the issue or provide a definite return date for the All-SEC receiver.

"I'll make that decision, I'll let you know when he'll be back," Malzahn said. "Bottom line, nobody is bigger than the team around here."

Malzahn said on Monday, Aug. 10, that Williams was not in attendance at the Tigers' first team scrimmage of the fall, which was held in Jordan Hare Stadium on Monday morning.

Williams had 45 receptions for 730 yards in 10 games last season.

The rising senior is expected to move into the lead receiving role previously occupied by Sammie Coates under new quarterback Jeremy Johnson.
