Police investigating death at Glenn Avenue and College Street

A 22-year-old man was pronounced dead early this morning after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the intersection of West Glenn Avenue and North College Street at approximately 10 p.m. Monday night, Sept. 14, according to the Auburn Police Division.

The incident was witnessed by dozens of people who were outside at Live Oaks, and traffic on Glenn Avenue was blocked for more than two hours.

Police said an officer on routine patrol came across the scene of a vehicle stopped in the middle of Glenn Avenue with bystanders attempting to render first aid to the driver.

Witness interviews and evidence indicate the injury was self-inflicted, according to police.

A life saver helicopter transported the victim to the Columbus Midtown Medical Center, but he was pronounced dead at 4:29 a.m.

The case is still under investigation by the Auburn Police Division, State Medical Examiner’s Office and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
