Taylor Hicks and his college band Passing Through performed at Bourbon Street Bar Friday night, Sept. 25.
Friday’s performance marked the band's first show together in 17 years.
The band kept the crowd grooving to covers of songs by various bands including The Allman Brothers Band and Widespread Panic.
“Passing Through was a great group of guys that went to Auburn," Hicks said. "They are great musicians and I just enjoy performing with them. I have really been looking forward to just having good night in Auburn with them.”
The band finished with a cover of “Back Where It All Begins” by the Allman Brothers Band.
After finishing their set the guys hugged one another and shouted, “War Eagle.”
Passing Through mainly toured around the Southeast in the 1990s, but after graduating the band members decided to go their separate ways.
Auburn University students and alumni alike enjoyed the show because audience members was connected to Passing Through in some way.
“I remember when Taylor Hicks won American Idol back when I was in middle school," said Anna McCarthy, senior in marketing. “I had no idea he went to Auburn or was in a band here. It was cool to get to see him play on his old stomping grounds with his friends while being surrounded by the Auburn Family.”
After Passing Through performed their set, Spoonful James took the stage to finish out the night.
