Juveniles arrested for burglaries in downtown Auburn

The Auburn Police Division arrested a 17-year-old male and a 15-year-old male, both from Auburn, and charged them each with two counts of Burglary Third Degree and Theft of Property Second Degree on Oct. 25, according to a press release.

Officers responded to a burglary alarm in the 600 block of E. Thach Avenue at 4 a.m. on Sunday. There, they discovered someone had attempted to force entry into a residence. An additional burglary was reported in the 900 block of McKinley Avenue within minutes, according to the press release.

Officers said they observed a suspicious vehicle leaving the area and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle fled, and after a brief pursuit, the car crashed near Godfrey Lane. The driver, the 15-year-old, was taken into custody, the release stated.

After further investigation, the 17-year-old was named a suspect in another robbery in the 200 block of Cove Court.

The 15-year-old was awaiting court on two burglary charges from Oct. 9 for residences on Woody Drive and Harper Avenue.

After a search, officers discovered the teenagers were in possession of some of the stolen items.

"A search of the 17-year-old’s residence, and the vehicle the 15-year-old was driving, resulted in the recovery of electronics taken in both burglaries," the press release read. "Additional burglaries reported to police over the weekend that occurred on Harper Avenue and Barkley Crest Lane are being investigated and may be related."

Both juveniles were transferred to the Lee County Youth Development Center for the most recent charges and have appeared in court where they were ordered to be held in detention, the release stated.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
