UPC's Plainsfest: Parachute and Matt Wertz rock the Plains

Hundreds of students, families and friends came out Friday, Oct. 2 to see Matt Wertz and Parachute perform at Plainsfest, the University Program Council’s annual concert.

The five homecoming candidates were introduced before the show and each given a chance to speak about their platform.

University Program Council’s Director of Major Entertainment Sagar Leva said the concert ran smoothly.

“The weather held out and everything’s been perfect so far,” Leva said. “It’s the best we could hope for.”

Although many students were especially excited for Parachute to perform, they enjoyed Matt Wertz just as much.

“My favorite part was that he had a lot of jokes,” said Luke Johnson, sophomore in aerospace engineering.

The crowd was active and responsive. Young girls twirled around, holding onto their father’s hand and Aubie made a few appearances.

Parachute and Matt Wertz t-shirts and sweatshirts were also being sold.

Tommy Britt, a sophomore in materials engineering said he was blow away by the saxophonist’s skills.

“My lifelong dream is to be the guy who played saxophone,” Britt said.

Parachute performed some of their biggest crowd pleasers such as “White Dress” and “Kiss Me Slowly.” They also performed a couple covers such as Taylor Swift’s “Style.”

“Auburn is not a huge city so it’s really cool that we get the opportunity to have fun bands right here,” said Auburn Cottle, senior in English literature.

The night ended with a send off from an audience member who led the crowd in a large “War Eagle.”
