A spirit that is not afraid

Victorian Front Porch Christmas Tour began Wednesday

On North 8th Street in historic Opelika, two giant silver bells mark the entrance of one of Opelika’s oldest Christmas traditions, the Victorian Front Porch Christmas Tour.

The tour began in 1993 with only a handful of homes participating. Today, the tour includes 60 homes spreading across North 8th and 9th Streets.

The tour was officially opened on Wednesday, Dec. 10 and will go through Dec. 13. The official tour hours are 5-9 p.m.

The walking tour will be Saturday, Dec. 12 from 6-9 p.m. The walking tour will kick off at 6 p.m. with a tree lighting ceremony on the corner of North 8th Street and 2nd Avenue with Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller and his wife Laura.

“I love the Victorian Front Porch Christmas Tour, even though it is during finals week, it is really nice to be able to take a study break and drive through the tour with my friends on my own time. The porches are so pretty, it really gets me in the holiday spirit,” said Meredith Hood, marketing student.
