Parents and children from the Auburn-Opelika community are invited to attend one of the year's most family-friendly events on Jan. 23 at the Bottling Plant Event Center in Opelika.
This free event will feature the talents of educational singer Jack Hartmann and a meet and greet with Auburn University alumnus, James Dean.
Dean is the artist behind the famous “Pete the Cat” paintings. He will be at the event from 8-10 a.m. signing autographs and taking pictures.
Hartmann will take the stage from 10 a.m.-noon to sing and dance for the families at the event.
“We are very excited to be included in this event in Opelika,” Hartmann said. “I have a lot of new material that helps children learn a lot of the basic skills along with getting them moving and getting them exercising as they are learning. We have a lot of fun songs and learning songs for them to share. We will be performing a lot of old favorites but a lot of the new songs as well.”
The event will also have a variety of nonprofit vendors present and will provide other fun activities for children to participate in.
The event is sponsored by the Child Care Resource Center and the Employers’ Child Care Alliance.
Tammy Morgan, executive director of the Child Care Resource Center, said this event is important.
“Over the course of the past two years we have been building the infrastructure for our family resource center,” Morgan said. “We really have this event to encourage families to come out and enjoy themselves and to showcase the other nonprofits in the area as well. We want to try to help families in need and help them find the resources they need.”
The Child Care Resource Center is a “nonprofit, private agency that promotes quality child care through the provision of support services for child care providers, parents, employers, and communities,” according to the Child Care Resource Center’s website.
The Employers Alliance is “a group of employers committed to promoting quality child care by identifying and addressing the child care issues of working families as they affect today's employees and tomorrow's workforce,” according to the Employers' Child Care Alliance website.
