Whether one calls them pancakes, johnnycakes, flapjacks or hotcakes, this sweet breakfast treat is one known for bringing friends and family to the kitchen table.
This Saturday, Feb. 27, Auburn Kiwanis will be hosting its 29th annual pancake day at Auburn United Methodist Church. They will start serving pancakes at 6:30 a.m., and the event is expected to end at 11 a.m.
The event is being sponsored by more than 30 local businesses and organizations.
According to Anna Buckner, chairperson for the annual pancake day, entertainment for the event will include face painting for the kids, clowns and a special appearance by Aubie at 9 a.m.
Buckner said it's a fabulous occasion to give back to those in the community and gather to eat with neighbors.
Not only will the event be an opportunity for those in the community to socialize, but the proceeds will be going to support the children of Lee County through programs such as BigHouse Foundation, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lee County and Food Bank of East Alabama.
The event has been a tremendous success in the past and has allowed Kiwanis to connect with the community in a different way, Buckner said.
"Expect to have a lot of fun, see a lot of people from the community and feel good about supporting Lee County while you are here," Buckner said.
Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5.
