City of Auburn reaches settlement with student housing developer

The Auburn City Council will consider a settlement with Landmark Properties, a developer, at its meeting Tuesday, March 1.

The council has met in several executive sessions to discuss threatened litigation against the city.

Landmark Properties is the developer for The Standard at Auburn, a student housing project proposed for the corner of Glenn Avenue and Gay Street.

The site is in the city's urban core which, along with the entire city, has been under a moratorium on new student housing since Dec. 15, 2015.

Landmark submitted documents for The Standard and had a contract to buy the property on Dec. 15, according to city documents.

The resolution states that the City of Auburn will not contest Landmark's right to continue the development and approval process, and Landmark will have 18 months from the time of conditional approval to obtain a zoning certificate and 90 days after that to obtain a building permit.

Landmark will have to comply with zoning requirements in effect before Dec. 15.

The Standard will have up to 683 bedrooms, be 65 feet high and will not be open before Aug. 1, 2019, according to city documents.
