Trailer damaged in fire, owner not home

The Auburn Fire Division responded at approximately 4:30 p.m. to a trailer fire at Avalon Park off Webster Road.

One dog and two cats died in the fire, but the owner of the trailer was not at home at the time of the fire, according to AFD Chief John Lankford.

Tamie McKay, property manager at Avalon Park, said the owner of the trailer is a female vet student, but could not release her name.

"It's really sad to see people lose stuff, and I'm really just sad more than you know because I have pets and I have children and a house," McKay said.

McKay said she believes the fire resulted in a total loss.

McKay said the company would help by calling the Red Cross for someone renting a trailer.

"She was actually just about to graduate and had it up for sale," McKay said. "So I know this is going to be devastating for her, but I'm sure she had insurance. ... The loss part of the pets is, I think, going to be the hardest part."

The cause of the fire is still unknown and under investigation, according to Lankford.
