Memorial Day is the United States' holiday meant to honor the nation's fallen military men and women. To honor those lost Mayor Bill Ham and the Auburn Veteran Committee are hosting the 18th annual Mayor’s Memorial Day Breakfast.
The event will be held at the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center at 8 a.m. Monday, May 30.
“This annual event is held to honor the United States Military and those soldiers who have made extreme sacrifices," according to the cities press release.
The guest of honor and recipient of the 2016 City of Auburn distinguished veteran this year will be Command Sergeant Mayor Bennie G. Adkins, and the Auburn Heroes Remembered Award will be presented to the family of Colonel Platt Boyd.
Immediately following the breakfast there will be a memorial wreath laying ceremony at the Auburn Veterans Memorial Monument for citizens to attend at 10 a.m.
Tickets are available for purchase at City Hall, Auburn Chamber of Commerce or at the door for $25 each or $250 for a table for 10.
All the proceeds from the ticket sales will go to the Auburn Veterans Memorial Fund.
