Monday's I-85 shooter charged with murder

The suspect arrested in connection with an early morning shooting on Interstate 85 Monday has been charged with murder among other charges, according to Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones.

Larry Bradford Moore, a 21-year-old man from Taccoa, Georgia, was charged in Chambers County today with felony murder and two additional counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle.

"The warrants were obtained in Chambers County, just north of us," Jones said. "We determined in the investigation that the shooting actually took place in Chambers County, and of course the accident occurred in Lee County involving the truck hitting the vehicle that the shooting took place in."

Investigators said they believe Moore shot and killed a woman yesterday morning at approximately 1:20 a.m. while she was in a car, along with Moore and two other men, traveling southbound on Interstate 85.

"Even though the warrants were secured in Chambers County, the Lee County Sheriffs office is still the primary investigative agency, that hasn't changed," Jones said. "We will simply present our case to the Chambers County district attorney, as opposed to the Lee County District attorney."

Moore is in the process of being transferred to the Chambers County Jail. Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident in the northbound lane near the Lee and Chambers County line.

Authorities believe the vehicle veered out of control as a result of the shooting and had an accideent, disabling the car in the northbound lanes and placing it in advance of an oncoming 18-wheeler

The 18-wheeler struck the vehicle with the woman and three other men inside. When law enforcement arrived on the scene of the accident, they discovered a female who appeared to be dead from suffering a gunshot wound.

Moore escaped, and was later arrested in Valley, Alabama, thanks to a tip called into law enforcement.

At 2:20 a.m., the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two men who were in the car were transported to East Alabama Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

The woman's body was taken to the medical examiner's office at the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for a postmortem exam.

The Lee County Sheriff's Department, the Lee County Coroner's office and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences are investigating the incident.
