YEA! hopes to train young entrepreneurs

Applications for the 2016-2017 Young Entrepreneurs Academy are now available for students in grades 6 through 12. YEA! is a yearlong program that mentors middle and high school students and encourages them to start up their own business or social movement.

According to organizers, students in the program have the chance to come up with their idea of choice, pitch to a panel of investors to get actual funding for their business, launch their business or social movement and market at the YEA! Tradeshow to gain customers and boost public relations.

The tuition, which includes access to local leaders and business professionals, investment opportunities, trips, supplies and the opportunity to compete for college scholarships, is $200.

Classes begin in November with orientation and meet every Monday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

In order to apply, students must complete the application that includes a completed form and a written essay.

Transcripts from the student’s school is also required along with recommendation letter from a professional source (teacher, guidance counselor, employer or community leader).

Once the application is received along with the essay, transcript, letter of recommendation and application fee, students will be considered for the Academy. During the application process, students will be interviewed with a YEA! Student Selection Committee member.

With a limited number of seats offered for the academy per year, the application process is competitive.
