Police arrest suspect in connection with fatal hit and run

The Auburn Police Division arrested a man Wednesday morning in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred Thursday night.

The APD arrested 24-year-old Nicholas Osceola Dean Lawhon, from Auburn, on a felony warrant charging him with leaving the scene of an accident involving a death, police said. The driver fled the scene before police could get there.

Lawhon and his vehicle were later found by the APD, and he was identified by police as the person responsible, police said.

Police found a 28-year-old Hispanic man who suffered from injuries "consistent with being struck by a vehicle." First responders took him to East Alabama Medical Center for treatment by ambulance, but he later died from his injuries, police said.

Police are still working to confirm the identity of the man who was killed, but investigators said they found a non-government issued ID on his body and it displayed a photo with the name of Felipe Pablo Domingo. The APD is asking for public help in locating friends, an employer, family or a next of kin.

The hit-and-run occurred on Shelton Mill Road near East University Drive about 7:50 p.m., Oct. 6, police said.
