A 28-year-old man died last night after being hit by a vehicle along Shelton Mill Road, police said. Authorities are searching for the suspect responsible for the death.
Police, fire and EMS paramedics responded to a traffic incident near the intersection of Shelton Mill Road and East University Drive at about 7:50 p.m. Thursday night, Oct. 6, according to a police press release.
When they got there, police discovered a 28-year-old Hispanic man suffering from injuries "consistent with being struck by a vehicle." Responders took him to East Alabama Medical Center for treatment by ambulance, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
The victim's name has not been released until family can be notified of his passing.
The Auburn Police Division is investigating the death with the help of the State of Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences along with the FBI. They have gathered statements from witnesses on the scene.
"The preliminary investigation suggests an accident with contributing factors involved, the individual(s) responsible are encouraged to come forward and contact detectives," according to the release.
