Auburn man arrested for attempted murder

The Auburn Police Division arrested an Auburn man on Sunday on charges of attempted murder.

On Nov. 20, 2016, the APD arrested Tamarius Antoine Welch, 32, on a felony warrant charging him with attempted murder.

Welch was arrested in connection with a domestic violence call at about 1 p.m. on Sunday on Wimberley Road in Auburn. Officers were told the suspect was brandishing a gun and trying to fire it at another man, police said.

The gun malfunctioned and the 24-year-old man was able to escape without injury. Police were notified later and connected Welch with the incident. Welch was found by police and taken into custody on unrelated charges.

He was charged with the attempted murder while in custody in the Lee County Jail, where he is now being held on a $75,000 bond.
