Auburn man arrested in connection with Thanksgiving Day shooting

An Auburn man is in jail this week following a Thanksgiving Day shooting, according to the Auburn Police on Monday.

The Auburn Police Division arrested 27-year-old Tony L. Smith on Nov. 4 charging him with felony attempted murder.

Smith was arrested after an APD investigation into a shooting on Thanksgiving Day. The Police responded to a call reporting shots fired at about 2:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, along the 100 block of Maple Street in Auburn. Witnesses gave officers a description of black male brandishing a hand gun, firing at an individual and fleeing on foot, police said. He was believed to be the suspect.

The victim was not hurt by the gun fire, but a home was damaged.

The police developed Smith as a suspect after he was observed fleeing from the scene and identified as the individual responsible for shooting at the victim, police said. The APD then located Smith and took him into custody.

He is being held in the Lee County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
