Opelika man charged in Auburn vehicle break-in

Auburn police arrested an Opelika man Tuesday in connection with a vehicle break-in, according to a Wednesday press release from the Auburn Police Division.

Police arrested Remus D. Menifield, 29, on felony warrants charging him with unlawful breaking and entering a motor vehicle and theft of property second degree.

Handguns, electronic devices and a backpack valued at over $1,800 were stolen from a pickup truck at the 2600 block of Carrington Court on Monday, according to police.

Police recovered the items after searching Menifield's home, and detective took him into custody after obtaining a warrent for his arrest, the release states.

Menifield was transported to the Lee County Jail and will be eligible for a $6,000 bond.

The case remains under investigation and additional charges are possible.
