Police search for suspect in fatal hit-and-run

Another person died today as the result of a hit-and-run accident in Auburn, police said. Detectives are searching for those responsible.

The Auburn Police Division responded to a report of a hit-and-run in the 1900 block of Opelika Road on Sunday. Responders found an unresponsive Hispanic man in the road, suffering from severe injuries.

The victim died, and police haven't identified him yet.

A police investigation is underway, officials said, with the assistance of the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to identify the suspect or suspects in the investigation. Police urge the individual or individuals response to contact the police immediately.

Anyone with information on the identity of the victim, the suspect or anyone who has seen a vehicle with recent or suspicious front-end damage can call the police at 334-501-3140 or anonymously at 334-246-1391.

The fatality follows a similar accident in early October on Shelton Mill Road near East University Drive in which a 28-year-old Hispanic man died as the result of a hit-and-run. Less than a week after the incident, the APD arrested an Auburn man on a felony warrant charging him with leaving the scene of the accident involving a death.
