Construction worker discovers leg under a Lee County bridge

The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a recovered human leg that was found Wednesday afternoon in a Lee County creek.

Deputies responded Wednesday afternoon to a call from a construction worker working near a bridge in the 6000 Block of Lee Road 159 south of Auburn.

The worker reported he came across a trash bag in a creek under the bridge that contained what appeared to be a severed human body part, according to the Sheriff's office.

The deputies arrived on scene and confirmed that the bag contained a human leg. Lee County Investigators searched the immediate surrounding area but did not uncover any additional remains.

The leg will be sent to the Alabama Medical Examiner's for further investigation, including possible victim identification.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office is investigating alongside the Lee County Sheriff's Office and Lee County Coroner's Office due to the short distance between the scene of recovery and the Macon County line.

The Lee County Sheriff's Department is asking that anyone with information contact them at 1-334-749-5651,
