Police investigate a possible homicide on North Dean Road

The Auburn Police Division is investigating a possible homicide that occurred in Auburn on Saturday night.

The Lee County Coroner's Office received a call from the Auburn Police Division on Saturday at 7:20 p.m, the coroner's office said. The police began investigating a possible homicide of a 26-year-old at 420 North Dean Road in Auburn at about 5 p.m. when they arrived on the scene, police said.

Investigators found Herman Cornelius "Ce-Ce" Lane dead inside of his home at an apartment complex near the intersection of North Dean Road and Annalue Drive, police said Sunday. He appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound, the coroner said.

According to police, a family member could not reach Lane and went to his apartment, where they found him unresponsive from the gunshot wound.

Lane was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:45 p.m. He was last known to be alive at about 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery is performing a postmortem examination on Lane's body. The homicide investigation is being performed by the Lee County Coroner's Office, the Auburn Police Division and the Department of Forensic Sciences.
