Opelika’s Farmers Market Tradition

The O Grows Farmer's Market has been a local tradition in Opelika for two years now, and values local faces. According to director Susan Forbes, they have welcomed the same ten vendors to sell their products consistently.

Many familiar shoppers attended the event, which took place at 1103 Glenn St. Opelika and is open every Tuesday from May-August.

With everything to offer from fresh fruit to pottery and art, students and other residents are given the opportunity to purchase inexpensive and fresh vegetables, all grown locally within 50 miles of the Opelika area.

Vendors and buyers set up shop, and waited for buyers to stop by and chat.

Shop owners and shoppers agreed that the market benefits both the community and local farmers.

Glen Copeland, market-goer, said he has come back year after year for the fresh produce. He said the farmers market is beneficial to the community.

“It’s great, because it’s giving back to the local farmers,” Copeland said.

Forbes said she appreciates the sense of community surrounding the market, and enjoys the welcoming atmosphere.

The O Grows Farmers Market continues a decades old local tradition by following in the footsteps of the original Opelika Farmer’s Market.
