Auburn couple stars in HGTV pilot

Ashley and Barrett Gilbreath are 2004 graduates of Auburn. The couple now stars in a pilot for a reality series on HGTV that premiered Aug. 20.

The Home and Garden Network is notorious for having a plethora of programming covering DIY projects, demolition, home-buying and decorating. For one of their newest pilots, HGTV is taking a chance on a reality series starring Auburn graduates.

Barrett and Ashley Gilbreath are 2004 graduates of Auburn and now stars of their possible own reality series, "Sweet Home Renovation". The pilot showcases the couple converting beach homes into southern retreats. If the pilot is a success, the couple will be eligible for having their own series on the HGTV network.

Ashley studied interior design during her time at Auburn and post graduation she began her own interior design business in Montgomery. Ashley’s success as an interior designer and the growing following from her social media is what got her family noticed by HGTV in March of 2016.

In addition to launching their careers, Ashley and Barrett have grown their family in Montgomery.  Ashley says their life can be hectic at times balancing their careers, three young children and now reality show.

The couple met in Auburn and were dedicated and involved during their time here.  Ashley was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority and Barrett was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.

Their love for the school, especially Auburn football, drove them to raise their family and build their success nearby in Montgomery.  Ashley said they come to Auburn as frequently as they can, and that Barrett lives for Auburn football.

“I feel like it was yesterday and I feel like it was a million years ago at the same time,” Ashley Gilbreath said. “We can’t move any farther than one hour from Auburn.”

With her husband and three children by her side, the family is the total package, and the show features not only their beautiful renovations, but also a look at their family.

Ashley said she was hesitant when they first reached out to her and could not believe HGTV was interested in her and her family.

“A production company in New York called me one day and I laughed and said ‘yeah right, no one wants to do a show on someone in Alabama’.”

Her husband Barrett on the other hand has been enthusiastic and supportive, and has encouraged Ashley throughout the entire process since HGTV reached out to them.

“Barrett is all about the idea of us doing a show.  I think he could have a show all by himself.”

The couple does not know what the future holds for them, but Ashley hopes that the show and their family can be an inspiration to others.

“I hope we can inspire someone in a good way to be creative and their family involved in a design project of their own.”
