Sixty-four students took home awards for their research and creative scholarship posters and oral presentations during the recent “This is Research: Student Symposium 2018” in the Student Center. The winners were announced during an awards ceremony April 3 in the Student Center ballroom. More than 470 undergraduate and graduate students participated in the symposium which gives them an opportunity to come together to share their research and creative projects.
Undergraduate first-place winners in the science, technology, engineering and math section were Gabrielle Gilmer, senior in chemical engineering, for her oral presentation and Dorothy Mitchell, senior in marine biology, for her poster presentation.
In the section for social science, education, allied heath including creative scholarship in design, arts and humanities, Lisa Maggi, senior in interior architecture, won first place for the oral presentation. Madeline Wrolson, senior in psychology, won first for her poster presentation.
Micah Warren, a graduate student in fisheries, won first-place for the science, technology, engineering and math oral presentation. Tying for first in the poster presentations were Amanda Sterling, a graduate student in mechanical engineering, and Iman Hassani, graduate in chemical engineering and Manoj Govindarajulu, a graduate student in pharmaceutical sciences.
In the section for Social Science and Creative Scholarship in Design, Arts and Humanities, Brian Gillis of Human Development and Family Studies won first place for his oral presentation, while Hannah Moss of Audiology took first in the poster presentations.
College-specific awards were also awarded for undergraduate and graduate student categories.
