Johnston Taylor, 16, was arrested on two counts of manslaughter as a result of an investigation into the car accident that led to the death of Rod and Paula Bramblett.

The fatal accident occurred on May 25 at the intersection on Shug Jordan Parkway near West Samford Avenue. Rod Bramblett, "the voice of the Auburn Tigers", and his wife Paula Bramblett, employee of the University, died from injuries sustained in the accident.

The ongoing investigation found that Taylor had marijuana in his system at the time of the accident, and he was going well above the 55 mile-per-hour speed limit, according to a press release from APD.

According to a report that came as a result of an open records request by the Opelika-Auburn News, the 16-year-old involved in the accident told police he fell asleep in the car and didn't remember what happened.

A preliminary investigation by APD did not find that alcohol or phone use were contributing factors.

Taylor was charged as an adult, per Alabama Criminal Code 12-15-204.

He was taken into custody in his Auburn residence and is being held in the Lee County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
