UPDATE | 7:15 p.m., June 19: A new tornado watch has been issued for Lee County until 6 a.m. Sunday. A Tweet from the National Weather Service says that the watch will likely be canceled well before then, however.
Tornadoes and flash flooding are a possibility in Lee County this weekend. Lee County is under a tornado watch from 9:35 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
Bands of rain from a tropical storm in the Gulf are expected move up into central Alabama this weekend, making flash flooding possible.
Lee County is under a flash flood watch from 7 a.m. Saturday until 7 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service said the first band of showers entered southwestern central Alabama on Friday afternoon.
In the event of severe weather, students can take shelter in any buildings on campus during regular hours. After hours, Greene Hall at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Ralph Brown Draughon Library are open to anyone who needs shelter.
