For the first time in Auburn basketball’s 116 year history, the Tigers are the No. 1 team in the nation.
In the latest iteration of the AP Top 25 Poll, the Auburn Tigers overtook Gonzaga and were ranked No. 1 in the NCAA. Auburn received 1,504 points, 29 more than Gonzaga. The Tigers also received a total of 45 first-place votes.
Last week, Auburn was ranked No. 2 overall, which was the highest ranking Auburn had achieved in over two decades.
After defeating No. 12 Kentucky at home on Saturday, Auburn became the clear favorite to be the new best team in college hoops.
Bruce Pearl’s team is undefeated in SEC play and currently on a 15-game win streak. The only blemish on Auburn’s record is a double-overtime loss to No. 20 UConn in The Bahamas.
This season, Auburn has faced three ranked opponents, all conference teams, and has won all three by an average of nine points.
No. 1 Auburn’s next test is a road contest against Missouri (8-10, 2-4 SEC). The game is set for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. CST and will be broadcast on SEC Network.
