Police tape surrounds a crime scene.

On Monday, March 7, Auburn police responded to a shooting call at a residence in the 1300 block of Commerce Drive, where three individuals were found with gunshot injuries.

The 28-year-old female was transported to a trauma center for additional medical treatment, while both men were pronounced deceased on the scene.

Preliminary findings indicated that the second deceased male shot a gun inside a residence that resulted in the death of the male victim and injuries to the female victim.

The suspect entered the residence wearing all dark clothing and began shooting before fleeing on foot — the Auburn police located two other people near the scene who reportedly exchanged gunfire with the suspect as he fled resulting in a fatal shot during the exchange.

The identity of the suspect has not been released pending notification of next of kin, but police determined he is not a resident of Lee County.

Upon review by the Auburn Police Department and the Lee County District Attorney's Office, criminal charges are currently dismissed due to the death of the offender.

The case still remains under investigation, however, and anyone with additional information is asked to contact the detectives (334) 501-3140 or at the tip line (334) 246-1391.
