Good Dog Park and Bar is open for business.

A new dog park has recently opened up in Auburn. However, this dog park has a twist: It also has a bar.

Even if someone does not own a dog, they can still get into the park and enjoy a drink while playing with the pups.

“I describe this as the best brewery you’ve ever been to but way more dog friendly,” said Clint Carmichael, co-owner of Good Dog Park and Bar.

The idea to create Good Dog Park and Bar came from Carmichael’s experience at a turfed dog park in Chattanooga, Tennessee, combined with his wanting a safe place for his golden doodle, Callie, to play with other dogs.

“It was just a dog park in the city, fully turfed, with a similar concept," Carmichael said. "I just became obsessed with it.”

This idea grew into what is now Good Dog Park and Bar. Dog owners and dog lovers are free to enjoy a beverage while playing with the pups.

“If you go to hang out with your friends in the park it’s free for you," Carmichael said. "If you have a dog you have to pay.”

While owners and dog lovers relax and play with the dogs, bark rangers oversee the play going on in the park to make sure dogs are behaving and playing properly. All dogs are also required to have proof of vaccinations to enter the park to ensure that it is a safe environment for everyone.

Good Dog Park and Bar offers day passes and memberships to dog owners.

A day pass is $10 for the first dog and five dollars for the next dogs of the same owner. Annual memberships are $300, and monthly memberships are $40.

“If you go more than 30 times a year, [the annual membership is] worth it for you,” Carmichael said.

A membership will give dog owners access to all Good Dog Park and Bar locations.

The bar portion of the park offers “Yappy Hour” once or twice a week for drink specials on beer, wine and seltzers. In the future, dog-friendly beer will be offered.

The park and bar also plan on accommodating those coming from out of town on Auburn University game days.

“We are going to add more shaded areas and add TVs and do a tailgate deal where you come in from out of town and you want to hang out with your dog for an hour, take them to the park and then board them with us when you're at the game, then pick them up after the game,” Carmichael said.

Of the sales at the Auburn location of Good Dog Park and Bar, 1% is donated to Storybook Farm and Lee County Humane Society.

“We want to give back to the communities that we are in,” Carmichael said.

With the veterinary school and the love for pups in Auburn, Carmichael admires the love Auburn has for furry friends and how that has made his staff great.
