Masks are no longer required on the Tiger Transit, effectively immediately, Auburn University announced in an email sent to students on Tuesday, April 19. Masks are also not required at campus transportation hubs or on-campus shuttles.

On Monday, April 18, a federal judge in Florida struck down the federal mask requirement on airplanes, taxis, trains, buses and other public transportation. This decision also includes public transportation hubs.

U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle said the mandate was unlawful because it exceeded the authority of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and because its implementation violated administrative law.

Due to the ruling, the Transportation Security Administration is no longer enforcing the mask mandate.

The CDC maintains its recommendation that people wear masks in indoor public transportation settings.

Aboard Tiger Transit and other University transportation was the last location where face coverings were still broadly required for students prior to the announcement. Auburn made masks optional for all students in campus buildings on Feb 23.
