A shooting in a residential area in Opelika led to the death of a 13-year-old Monday afternoon, the Opelika Police Department said.

Police received a call of a gunshot victim in the 300 block of Wittel Avenue at 4:14 p.m. Monday. First responders located a 13-year-old victim suffering from a single gunshot wound.

Paramedics began life-saving measures before transporting the victim to East Alabama Medical Center. The victim died from their injuries at 5:15 p.m., police said.

OPD said the incident remains under investigation and asks anyone with information to contact the department’s detective division at 334-705-5220, the secret witness hotline at 334-745-8665 or the Opelika Police Mobile App. You can wish to remain anonymous.
