The SGA Senate meets in the Melton Student Center on Feb. 21, 2022, in Auburn, Ala.

On Monday night, SGA voted to table changes to the Miss Homecoming and Miss Auburn requirements proposed during their previous meeting.

The changes, initially proposed by COSAM Senator Cara Herring, clarified language concerning qualifying academic term lengths for the two positions. However, Herring postponed the bill until after the senatorial transition was complete.

“We want to give this bill the time it deserves,” Herring said.

Additionally, the senate passed two resolutions. One resolution encourages the Office of Information Technology to consolidate tutoring services into a tab on AU Access. If implemented, the system would streamline the Auburn student academic resource experience by housing all the educational resources offered by Auburn in a single location.

The second resolution commended Auburn University Dining and Aramark for “all that they do for the student body.”

Proposed by Harbert College of Business Senator Lucy Brown, the resolution cites various projects Auburn Dining and Aramark have been working on over several years. These projects include passing pizza out during finals week, allowing students to use dining dollars on HelloFresh and bringing "Blenz Bowls” to The Plains.

These legislation items are the last of the 2022-2023 SGA, as former Vice President Coleman Turnipseed banged the gavel a final time before passing it to her successor, Julianne Lozano.

Many of the outgoing senators gave speeches thanking supporters and friends within the senate for mentorship throughout the night. Their colleagues met their addresses with varying enthusiasm, ranging from light claps to small cheers.

However, Turnipseed received a standing ovation.

In her final remarks, Turnipseed recalled how her journey to the podium took an unexpected early downturn when she did not make the Freshman Forum. However, the experience gave her the mentors that led to her ultimate success.

She continued by thanking the executive staff, who were all wearing campaign shirts from her campaign last year, and thanking the senators she served with during her term before finishing her final formal remarks to the senate.

"I want to say thank you to the student body for electing me to this position a year ago, and I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to each of you in this room for helping me to meet the need," Turnipseed said.

Finally, the meeting ended with Lozano being officially sworn in to become the SGA vice president. The rest of the 2023-2024 senate was sworn in shortly after.
