For the second straight season, the road to Omaha will go through Plainsman Park, as Auburn baseball earned the No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Auburn will take on UCF (31-21), NC State and Milwaukee in its regional. If the Tigers emerge victorious, they will face the winner of the Nebraska Regional (Nebraska, South Dakota State, Arizona State and Ole Miss) with a trip to the College World Series on the line.
This marks the second consecutive year coach Butch Thompson has led the Tigers to a top-four seed, as they finished 38-19 overall (17-13 SEC) with marquee series wins over Arkansas, Florida, Texas A&M and Mississippi State.
Auburn solidified its case for a national seed after finishing No. 3 in the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) rankings, just behind UCLA and Georgia Tech.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to have postseason baseball at Plainsman Park for the fourth time in the last five seasons,” Thompson said. “Not many programs are able to say they’ve hosted as often as us in the last half decade, and the credit goes to our amazing players, coaches, supporters and administration.”
The Auburn Regional is set to begin Friday and will run through Monday, if necessary.
“All-session tickets are the only way to currently secure admission to the Auburn Regional at Plainsman Park. Should any additional ticket inventory remain, single-session tickets could be made available at a later date,” Auburn Athletics said in a press release.
