Auburn second baseman Chris Rembert was drafted No. 51 overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second round of Saturday’s MLB Draft. He’s the first Tiger selected in the 2026 draft.

The draft-eligible sophomore was a key contributor for the Tigers, hitting .344 and totaling 152 hits, including 42 extra-base hits, 92 RBIs and 14 home runs during his two seasons on the Plains.

Defensively, Rembert posted a .974 fielding percentage, committing nine errors in 115 appearances.

The Pensacola, Florida, native earned Freshman All-America first-team honors in 2025 after posting a .344 average and 72 hits in his first season.

He led Auburn in 2026 with a .343 average and 80 hits, earning a spot on the All-SEC First Team.

This marks the 52nd straight season Auburn has had at least one player selected in the MLB Draft, tying the longest streak in the SEC.

Butch Thompson and company are hoping Rembert won’t be the last Tiger to hear his name called this weekend as Eric Guevara, Brandon McCraine, Alex Petrovic and Ryan Hetzler eagerly await Day 2 on Sunday.

Unfortunately for Auburn, two of its high school signees, Coleman Borthwick and Jace Mataczynski, have been drafted by the San Diego Padres and Boston Red Sox, respectively. Borthwick's slot value is $4.2 million, and Mataczynski's is $815,700, putting their arrivals on the Plains in jeopardy.
