Students battled sore feet and unexcused absences to raise awareness about world hunger and participate in the Committee of 19's second Hunger March. The collection of approximately 100 marchers gathered 8 a.m. Saturday to prepare for the 60-mile trek to Montgomery. The march took three days to complete. "You can make a statement through your money, but you can really make a statement through your time," said Clark Solomon, senior in political science and president-elect of the Committee of 19.
Students marched 60 miles March 27-29 from Auburn to the state capitol in Montgomery to raise awareness about local, state and world hunger.

"I chose the Lose Weight course because summer is coming up, and it's that time of year to get into shape," said Alexandra Richards, an Auburn resident. "It's only $95, which is less than a gym membership and I've always wanted to see what the Community Outreach Program is all about. I am not a student at Auburn and have a job so this seems like it would be a good way to take classes without actually being enrolled."
Concerned Auburn residents will endure possible blisters and sore feet to raise awareness about the hunger problems in Alabama and the rest of the world. "It is a great way to rally students who are passionate about world hunger and hunger related issues, but it is an opportunity to take that passion to the capital," said Emily Butler, junior in human development and family studies and representative for the Committee of 19. "This allows those who represent us to take notice of how important it truly is to abolish this issue."
The Alabama attorney general is suing the Environmental Protection Agency for its December ruling in which the agency concluded greenhouse gas emissions are a threat to human health.
Four Auburn Track and Field members got one last attempt to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships last Saturday at the Last Chance Qualifying meets. The field for the championships is determined by an athlete's standing on the national performance list. The Last Chance Qualifier is for athletes to try one more time to move up the list and improve their odds of making the cut.
