Banners removed from new scoreboard

The banners on the back of Auburn’s new scoreboard, the largest in college football, did not last long.

The banners, which were mosaics including athletes, alumni and faculty, were added on Tuesday and Wednesday. The banners were removed Friday, Aug. 7.

One banner contained a picture of Nova, Auburn’s golden eagle that circles Jordan-Hare Stadium before home football games. The other was a picture of Toomer’s Corner, including the famous oak trees rolled in toilet paper.

"The banners were removed because the sizing and coloring weren't done correctly," Kirk Sampson, Auburn's director of sports information, told The Plainsman.

A report from AL.com suggests some officials inside the athletics department were not pleased with how the banners turned out.

AL.com reports a plan is in place to have the banners replaced at some point this season, but it is unlikely that the banners are in place in time for the first home game.

Auburn’s home opener is Saturday, Sept. 12, versus Jacksonville State.
