Police are investigating a shooting in Auburn early Saturday morning that killed two men and left a woman injured.

Police responded to a report of shots being fired in the 800 block of North Donahue Drive at approximately 3:45 a.m., authorities said Saturday. Police found three people who had been injured at a single apartment.

One of the men was already dead when police arrived, and Lee County Coroner Bill Harris pronounced him dead on the scene.

The second suffered life-threatening injuries. After being transported to East Alabama Medical Center for treatment, he died during emergency surgery at about 7:04 a.m., Harris said. His identity has not been released.

The woman, 61, who also has not been identified, suffered minor injuries from the gunshots, police said, and she was treated at EAMC and released.

"While the case remains under investigation, preliminarily, it appears that at least one of the victims was shot by the male who was transported and later died at East Alabama Medical Center," police said in a statement.

The incident is being investigated by the Auburn Police Division and is not believed to be a random shooting. Police said no further details are being released at this time.

Anyone with information related to this case is asked to contact the Auburn Police Division at 334-501-3140 or at the tip line, 334-246-1391.

Both deceased victims will be taken to the medical examiner’s office of the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for postmortem examinations.

Their names are being withheld at this time pending notification of family.
