Students warm up for dance marathon

Students will boogie, swing and cut a rug at the Auburn University Dance Marathon benefiting Habitat for Humanity.

"Students should expect one thing, to have fun while raising money for an awesome cause," said John Michael Roehm, executive AUDM officer.

The 12-hour marathon is this Friday in the New Center Ballroom. Checkin begins at 7:15 and dancing begins at 8 p.m.

As of Tuesday, more than 400 dancers were registered, but people can register today on the Concourse from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Registration is $10 per dancer and includes a shirt and 10 SGA spirit points.

Dancers ask friends and family to pledge money for every hour they dance and must have 25 percent of their team dancing for the 12 hours.

"We expect people just to show up on the night of the actual event, which is fine," Roehm said.

AUDM executive officer Tiffany Rozier said individuals can register Friday before kickoff.

DJ Hollywood, DJ Gray, and DJs from WEGL will supply the music.

The marathon has many activities planned including Miss Auburn 2009 Anna Houk teaching a line dance at the beginning of three hours throughout the night.
