The normal crowd-driven roar of Jordan-Hare Stadium was replaced by the deafening sound effects of "The Dark Knight" last Thursday.

More than 2,000 students covered Pat Dye Field, sitting on blankets and beach towels.

The stadium's HD screen and students counted down to the movie, and students erupted in cheers as the movie began.

This was the second year UPC invited students to watch a movie in the stadium. While some students looked forward to the movie, others came on a whim.

"I actually didn't know about it until (the day of)," said Kelsi Shrout, a junior in health administration. "It was my friend's birthday, and she mentioned she wanted to go, so we did."

Aubie showed up to the event in full form as he joked with students and posed for pictures.

LaNita Wright, UPC director of films, said planning for the event started at the beginning of the semester, and had to be planned around football practice and A-Day.

"We couldn't get onto the field until after they finished football for the semester," Wright said.

The event was coordinated with the athletic department and Wright said this year's event went off without a hitch.

"Everything ran smoothly," Wright said. "Athletics was very supportive of everything we were doing, and we were very appreciative of that."

For Chelsey Adams, a junior in nursing, the decision to come was twofold.

"I came because I wanted to see 'The Dark Knight,' and I thought it was pretty cool it was in the stadium," Adams said. "It's unique, it's not something everyone gets to do."
