Students pack Pat Dye Field to watch 'The Dark Knight"

The normal crowd-driven roar of Jordan-Hare Stadium was replaced by the deafening sound effects of "The Dark Knight" last Thursday.More than 2,000 students covered Pat Dye Field, sitting on blankets and beach towels.The stadium's HD screen and students counted down to the movie, and students erupted in cheers as the movie began.This was the second year UPC invited students to watch a movie in the stadium.

Video game sales increasing

The seemingly recession-proof gaming industry will be watching how well its summer sports-related video game releases fare in sales after a 3 percent increase in overall sales from 2007 to 2008."Video gamers are a loyal group, and they will do what they need to get the games," said Mike McEwen, assistant store manager for the GameStop in TigerTown.

Bonner, Fortner nab top SEC honor for women's basketball

The Auburn women's basketball team, regular season SEC champions, celebrated three more accomplishments before heading into last weekend's SEC Tournament, where Vanderbilt topped them in the finals.Coach Nell Fortner was named SEC coach of the year, DeWanna Bonner was named SEC player of the year and Whitney Boddie was named to the first team All-SEC, all announced March 3."That is such a team award and I am just surrounded by an outstanding staff and this team has worked so hard this year and bought into everything that we were wanting to accomplish and how to accomplish it," Fortner said, in an article on the official Web site of Auburn Athletics.
