Wide receiver, Montez Billings, forced to sit out first 4 games

Senior wide receiver Montez Billings will watch the first four games of the Tigers' 2009 season from the sidelines, because of an academic issue.

"This is unfortunate for Montez, but we've exhausted all avenues to get him on the field as soon as possible," said Senior Associate Athletic Director Rich McGlynn. "While we don't necessarily agree with the NCAA's ruling, we have to respect and abide by their decision."

Billings, a public administration major, started and saw play in 11 games last season.

He had 24 catches for 277 yards in 2008, and 27 catches for 316 yards in 2007.

Auburn's 2009 season opens on Sept. 5 against Louisiana Tech at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be televised by ESPNU.
