The Auburn Baseball team rounded out the weekend with a third win on Sunday in the series against the Miami University RedHawks.

The games on Friday and Saturday were played with collective offensive effort with plenty of clutch hitting and numerous homeruns.

Right-handed pitcher Jon Luke Jacobs, sophomore, had a good outing on the mound with several players working out in the bullpen, enabling the team to hang in and put up a big inning late in the game Friday.

"It's big for our offense to get that rolling and carry that in the end of the game and come up with a win," said infielder Hunter Morris, junior.

Left-handed pitcher Grant Dayton, junior, pitched well early in Saturday's game, taking pressure off the offense, making it easier to bring in the win.

Sunday's game didn't sail as smoothly as the previous games, but the team responded to the pressure.

"I feel like this was a series we needed to sweep," said left-handed pitcher Cole Nelson, junior. "A win would have been the bare minimum."

With players being moved in different positions due to injuries, the team is starting to settle in and working to beef up their defense.

Despite any minor setbacks, the team has seen a positive attitude change going from the fall into the spring.

"Every time you sweep a quality team like we played this weekend, it's a great thing," Morris said. "Confidence, experience, everything benefits us in that situation. We've got to carry over now, we can't sit back and be content with what we've done."

The team has been looking at a more complete approach to plays, using the entire field offensively with pitchers working defensively in the zone to get ground balls.

Players have also been touching up on some of the fundamentals such as handling the bat, running, and stealing bases.

Morris said that while the team has a few big players with a lot of power that can hit homeruns, the team must steadily pick away and score one or two runs every inning throughout a ball game.

"A lot of the smaller parts of the game are adding up for us right now," Morris said.

Having only lost two of the 11 games played so far, the team is filled with confidence as they look ahead to this week's games against Alabama, Appalachian State, and Arizona State.

"Any time you can win three games on the weekend, you know you're doing something right," said head coach John Pawlowski.

In the long term, the team is looking to go to the SEC tournament and post season.

"Every time we put on a uniform we feel like we have an opportunity to win," Pawlowski said.

And the team agrees.

"The coaches have done a great job preparing us," Morris said. "So it's time now for us to step up and get the job done for ourselves and for this program."
