Whether lounging at the library or the pool during the day, students have downtown Auburn to provide entertaining evenings at a variety of venues.
Bars like Quixote's, Bourbon Street and 17-16 are welcoming summer students with drink and food specials.
Quixote's food specials are quickly turning the bar into much more than just a stereotypical college-town watering hole. Quixote's specializes in food specials during the week. Every Monday at 5 p.m., students line up for 35-cent wing night. On Thursdays, students can get a $4 burger, and on Fridays the bar is bustling at 3 p.m. with buy-one get-one free fajitas.
Aaron Barber, co-owner and bartender at Quixote's, is confident in the quality of the bar's food.
"We're pushing the food so hard right now because everybody that comes in and tries the food loves it," Barber said. "We have the opportunity to have the look and feel of a lounge atmosphere, but we also have food, and we're committed to serving that food."
Bourbon Street Bar kicks off its event schedule May 28 with a foam party. They will also cater to the live, music-loving crowd for much of the summer. Hightide Blues will play at the bar June 18, and a Sublime cover band follows June 25.
The bartenders at Bourbon Street agree the regular crowd isn't exactly the dress-code type, so as long as you're wearing clothes, feel free to enjoy the music.
17-16 will keep their normal hours, and they now have $4 frozen drinks all summer to combat the heat and humidity.
Speakeasy has $3 32-ounce well drinks and $3 baby bombs Monday through Friday starting at 7 p.m. If you plan on going to Speakeasy this summer, know that just because the lazy days of summer have begun, the dress code is still being enforced: that means no white t-shirts, no sunglasses and no baggy clothing.
Ben Barley, manager of The Bank Vault, said the bar will keep normal operating hours and is currently in the process of scheduling live music for the remainder of the summer. The Bank Vault doesn't enforce a dress code, so feel free to wear your swim trunks and flippy-floppies when grabbing a few drinks.
Karaoke Monday nights at Sky Bar are going to continue all summer, and the bar will also strictly enforce the dress code.
Most downtown bar operating hours will stay the same for the duration of summer, with the exception of closing a tad early on nights that the bars may be particularly empty.
Students should be aware that the bars won't be more lax on age limits just because summer has arrived. Attendee age limits are regulated by licenses that can't be changed. So expect to still get denied at The Bank Vault if you're under 21.
