The Vanderbilt Commodores showed why they are ranked No. 1 in the country after a convincing 11-6 win against Auburn Friday night.
The Commodores brought an offensive onslaught to the Plains, scoring 11 runs and 20 hits off four Auburn pitchers while leaving 16 base runners stranded.
Vanderbilt pitcher Sonny Gray earned the win after pitching five innings and giving up only four hits and two runs. The Commodores had three batters with four hits each.
Second baseman Riley Reynolds led Vanderbilt in hitting with four hits, three RBIs and one run scored. Auburn lacked an offensive leader with seven players each getting one hit.
Auburn pitcher Andrew Morris pitched four innings, giving up nine hits and three runs. Auburn faces Vanderbilt for game two of the series Saturday at 3 p.m.
